The JPL Open Repository (JOR) replaced the JPL Technical Report Server (TRS) in 2023. It is a repository for digital copies of technical publications authored by JPL employees. It includes journal articles (the Final Accepted Version), meeting papers, presentations, and other publications cleared for external distribution from 1992 to the present. It also include research datasets from 2022 on.

Years covered: 1992 to the present.
  • 1992-2021 records were originally on the JPL Technical Report Server (TRS) on Dspace system; those records were migrated to Dataverse in 2022.
  • Records with publication date 2022 or later are native to the Dataverse.
  • Data sets: 2022 to present
  • There are a few pre-1992 records. Those were added to the system on a case-by-case request basis.

  • Persistent IDs (PIDs):
  • 1992-2021 records have Handles
  • 2022 and later records have Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs).

Manney, G., 1993, "Nonlinear Barotropic Instability in the Stratosphere", https://hdl.handle.net/2014/34926, ['American Meteorological Society', 'San Antonio, Texas, USA'], JPL Open Repository
A number of linear studies suggest that some planetary scale waves in the stratosphere may arise from barotropic instability; the behavior of these barotropic modes at finite amplitudes has not previously been explored.

The effects of various time, temperature, vacuum, and moisture environments on four types of metallized and bare graphite/epoxy, bare graphite/peek samples, and a coated graphite/cyanate ester sample were evaluated.

Volpe, Richard, 1993, "A Survey and Experimental Evaluation of Proximity Sensors for Space Robotics", https://hdl.handle.net/2014/36350, San Diego, California, USA, JPL Open Repository
This paper provides an overview of our selction process for proximity sensors for manipulator collison avoidance. Five categories of sensors have been considered for this use in space operations: Intensity of reflection, triangulation, time of flight, capacitive, and iductive.

Ionospheric total electron content (TEC) data derived from dual-frequency GPS signals from 30 globally distributed IGS network sites are fit to a simple ionospheric shell model, yielding, simultaneously, values for the satellite and receiver biases, and a map of the ionosphere in...

Geologic mapping of the seven Venera/Vega landing sites (radius of error = 150 km) using Magellan data has shown that the dominant type of terrain at these sites is plains. At the Venera 8 and 13 sites, where a nontholeiitic composition was measured for the surface material, the...
