dc.description.abstract Two of the many research areas integral making a Mars-Earth optical communication link a reality are optical antenna design and laser transmitter design. This paper addresses areas of both of these by exploring a mode-matched design for a cavity-dumped communications laser, and by reporting on the initial stages of the analysis of an existing 100 inch telescope for use as an optical communications receiver. en_US
