Abstract:
We present measured fluctuations of UHF, L-band, and C-band signals that were transmitted from the ground through a forest canopy to an airborne radar. By use of a transmitter in the open, we are able to derive both magnitude and phase fluctuations. We then propose a simple Monte Carlo simulation for amplitude and phase fluctuations cased by propagation of a signal through a forest canopy. The measured RMS magnitude and phase fluctuations are similar to those predicted by the Monte Carlo simulation.
