dc.description.abstract The use of ion propulsion for deep-space missions will become a reality next year with the flight of the ion-propelled New Millennium Deep Space 1 spacecraft. This paper describes a suggested roadmap for the development of advanced solar exlectric propulsion technologies based on the expectations that these technologies will provide significant benfits for projected near, and mid-term solar system exploration missions. en_US
